No, it’s not the latest bar pickup line. What is it is frighteningly worse - office lingo. I confess, Office Space is one of my favorite movies. But, after taking a break from Corporate America, I was not adequately prepared for my reintroduction to office lingo. The most frightening being “bandwidth.”
If I were an Internet Service Provider, I would know how to answer the question. It would be 1.54 Mb. What I don’t understand, if the phrase is to be used as an analogy, what is the appropriate answer? If bandwidth is the amount of traffic that is allowed to occur between your web site and the rest of the internet, how do you say “I’m free?”
I fear there is no answer. What makes people talk differently when they step into an office?
